Greenhorn Posts: 9 01/15/12 10:34 PM	Tags : None Capt, I have been out numerous time to riverbreeze and constantly coming home with empty buckets.. I have tried all over, I can't afford the greenies so I'm stuck with starfires. 5 trips this winter season from cocoa and still an empty freezer.. I have tried all the tips in the forum and still shruging my shoulders.. have no clue what I'm doing wrong. 4 hours at river breeze and nothing.. any clues?

Posts: 2021 01/16/12 06:17 PM - 4 Limits 2011	How are you deploying your starfires? How are you setting up your boat, directy into the current, or horizontally with 2 anchors? Depending on how you have your lights set up, possibly try setting your lights lower in the water column with weights? Some good reports are trickling in but the run hasn't really fired off yet. Starfires will make bank but you have to make sure your not creating to much light at the surface. We have no idea how you setup your killzone. Maybe you can go into detail. Second, the run is lean, we are early in the season. I have not gone out this year yet. It is not because I cannot, my boat is at a dock in just North of the ramp. I do not go yet because the shrimp are small and the run is lean. It is not worth it to me yet. All I can suggest for now [cuz I do not know how your setting up your lights], go around a channel marker chosen in an area that is narrow, you can go North or South of the ramp. Sit on the shelf in about 10 foot of water, slowly move towards center of the channel. Normally if I pick a channel marker, I tend to go between CM 5 and CM 9A, about 2 miles South of ramp. You can catch shrimp right at the peach house 500 yards South of ramp. You can go north of ramp, look a the intercoastal on a map and see where the narrow areas are and shoot to sit at those areas, dead center of the channel with a spot light. If you see shrimp anchor up.. If your not seeing shrimp, do not set anchor ever... Try that for now.

Posts: 1138 01/16/12 09:55 PM Captain USCG Licensed NEW SMYRNA - 11 Limits 2011	atts , all info above is correct. i use to be a starfire kid myself and it was hard for me at first as well. let me know the next time you will be in that area again and maybe i can come out and show you how to set up your starfires . this friday and sat are a no go because im goin out of town to pick up my hunting gear and accy . but will be avail anytime after.. i use to be what they call a fair weather and a ramp shrimper, but that all changed since finding CAPT . LEE and HER site. that all changed . i understand the expenses and travel , im in orlando 62 miles one way . i dont usually go until the 1st week of feb or so. last season i was out anywhere from 2-5 times a week. some nights were a couple of gallons and others we would limit out in as little as 45 minutes. right now it is hit or miss, we have some experienced folks who were out sat and limited but im sure they WORKED their butts off to get the limit. feel free to call me with any ????s you might have 321 two nine seven 42 seven six mike

It will be a few weeks before the sizes come up, so you arent missing much. YOU WILL LIMIT if you hang around this crew through the entire season and are open to suggestion. The last thing i will tell you is... Sometimes you have to pick up your anchors and move. Gotta find the stream. Easy to say, tougher to do.

Greenhorn Posts: 9 01/17/12 10:28 AM	I want to thank everyone for the advice, I will give it a try, I am at work today and will give it another shot maybe wednesday night depending on the wife and other issues at hand. I have been using two anchors sitting cross tide, i have been trying alot in the area about 1/2 mile south of the ramp, ( you know where everyone sits) I have tried to experiment with depths of my lights, I have noticed the deeper is sometimes alot better with those bright starfires, I have also been tieing them to my anchor line to get them out a little futher from the boat to help the kill zone. I have added about 10 extra feet to cord to each light. My total shrimp count for sunday night was 11 shrimp total for 4 hours of shrimping, we set up to the south of the ramp at first but is got a little too crowded and moved to the north side about around the CM#73 (dunno but to the east of it it got shallow quick and lots of rocks.)?.. Epic failure, but i did get all the cobwebs off the boat while waiting so i guess it was worth it. there was one boat in front of me maybe 100 yards up and they turned 2 1/2 gallons, after talking with them at the ramp they pulled a limit the night before in the same spot i was in, so like i said, still trying to figure this all out, last season my biggest pull was maybe 2 gallons on a solo trip by myself. I'm not giving up just frustrated.. Ill be back out soon, If you see me out let me know, I am in a 20 foot center console off-shore yacht with Fire Department Union sticker on the console Usually wearing my very warm FD jacket. If you aren't finding them, MOVE. (I know it is a pain in the a$$, but that is the KEY to success). Sometimes I will move 3 or 4 times until I am perfectly in the stream. You WILL be successful, you just need a little help.
