Posts: 2656 12/10/11 11:01 AM S.E. Fla. Regional Coordinator - 1 Limits 2011	Haulover is - complicated!! The current will follow the Ponce tide if there is no wind for a full tide cycle and also no rainfall. That almost never happens. Wind has a major effect on Haulover's current and if the wind is constant for a couple of days, the current can be consistently positive (or negative) for several days as well. The current ran negative for 2.5 days last week due to strong and continuous east winds. Heavy rain will also drive the current flow for a day or two! The only way to be sure is to go to the canal and look! The flow gage isn't working right now. Boca Raton FL

Ponce is 6 hours before Oak Hill and 4 -4.5 hours ahead of Edgewater which are both tide dependent areas of river. Haulover is judged by the flow direction and how strong the flow is. There is a flow data site but the data has not changed since Dec 3rd, a must have bookmark in mobile phones. The flow is positive when the direction of the water is moving West to East [Mosquito lagoon], negative is flow from Mosquito moving towards the Indian River Lagoon. Any flow over 4000 is very fast...and if to fast, it can be a bad night.. Focus on flow strength when looking at Haulover, do not concern yourself with tides. If your going to shrimp Oak Hill and then run to Haulover [12 mins if you go 40 mph way], then you have some calculating to do with Oak Hill..and since you bookmarked the Haulover Canal Data flow website you can peek while on the river and decide to go or not and be well informed.
