I have recently started using braided line for snook and want to try it on a surf rod also. I have a large Penn spinning reel (925 ?) or something close to that size. I also have a 12' surf rod that a friend gave me. The rod says medium heavy and seems light for one so long. The reel has 25# Ande mono now and seems a little clunky with 1.5 oz weights.
Would I gain much distance if I replaced most of the mono with 30# Power Pro or equal? I use it for snook and it is very strong and works well for skipping bait under docks. It works well on a Penn Jigmaster revolving spool reel.
