Sea Worthy Posts: 13 06/17/10 03:14 PM	I'm moving to Deltona soon. we will be closing in the new house tomorrow. (can't wait) will be looking for all kinds of fishing help. I love fresh water and "specks" and want to give a try to those "stripers" that I heard about in the St. Johns. Shrimping is next on my list. I have a 17' Tracker boat that I use. will it hold up on the intercoastal?

Most of us have hung up our shrimp nets until the Fall. Your 17' will be just fine on the intercoastal. There are members on here shrimping and fishing in smaller craft than yours. When you do make your way over here, you will want to make sure that you have a really good and strong anchor. The cureent can really rip in certain places during the full and new moons.

That is using traps and occasionally dip nets (if the water is cool enough). Generally the water is so hot when the run starts they are crawling along the bottom. That is why box trap shrimpers do fairly well in the summer months. There is an article I wrote on this under the shrimping section on seawalls somewhere.... Good luck. Let me know if I can help. fb

Your tracker is fine, saltwater is hard on your boat finish, and will dull that shiney paint with sparkles. Saltwater is corrosive. Keep your boat gelcoat waxed. You will be fine. We dip Mid Dec to April in Oak Hill and Edgewater. The shrimp now are the day time runners in Daytona in the intercoastal way via cast net. The Titusville and South area [90 min drive] the sea wall shrimpers with traps in Brevard County. I am not a freshwater angler, I launch out of New Smyrna beach. So, can't help ya there. But stick with us and we will get you up to speed on shrimping. There is a lot of info on this site. Told the wife that it will be in A1 shape before we move in. lots of work to do. then I'll have time for fishing, and shrimping. would love to meet you guys.
