I'm against a ramp fee. They almost doubled my boat and trailer registration last year. If that money isn't going to ramps, then where's it going? While a $5 will pay for people to man the ramps and probably keep the ramps a little safer from vandalism, I don't think it's worth it.

They've raised the assessed property values along the waterfront to reflect what COULD be there, not what IS there, effectively driving small mom & pop baitshops and private ramps out of business.

I can tell you as a government employee all my life I understand what you are saying, but bashing the government is not the way to go. Everyone likes to drive on the interstate highways, state and local roads (all government projects) which are available 24/7. You like to have facilities you can use like national, state, and local parks, boat ramps, libraries (all government projects), pick up the phone and call 911 and you get a response 100% of the time. Fire, police, ambulances (all government services). Your children and/or grandchildren need an education so they go to school right? (a government service). You are fortunate and appreciate what you get for your dollar. Just check out other areas like my birth state of Connecticut. You can't even go to any beach or ramp unless you are a resident of the town or city in which the beach or ramp exists. You will be refused entry. So if that happened here those of us who live...

I live in Edgewater very close to the ramp but I use the NSB ramps often because its easier when I buy bait up there. If they start charging I will not be using that ramp! Charging for the boat ramps in NSB is a steaming crock of . As soon as NSB starts charging, edgewater will be a freaking mob scence untill inevitably they start charging too! Basically they are screwing the folks who use the ramps often, if they offer a discount to locals or a yearly pass or something that would be better than nothing but still sucks. No one will pay, they will go to Edgewater, the edgewater ramp sucks as it it and will become a mob scene, and then Edgewater will follow suit and start charging too!

I'm from Columbus, Ga. moved to Florida about 25 years ago now. In Ga. we paided state income tax. In my neck of the woods the parks were free( and better) and boat ramps were as well. When I moved here I was like. What's a toll road? Soon found out they make you pay for alot of stuff you don't in Ga. Well, my part of Ga. anyway. So all I got to say is Welcome to Florida.

This type of crap drives me nuts. I live in Deltona, and trailer my boat to NSB/ Ponce/ PO/ Lagoon. to fish. I support local bait shops, and typically end up eating out in the area instead of waiting to eat at home. We live on a pretty tight budget, and this type of fee would push me to other ramp's without fees, I may be spending alot more time in Oak hill/ edgewater. I know the fishin is just as good there. Just don't know the backwaters as well there. They can and will make their decisions without me, but I will speak with my wallet (as thin as it might be).

Well sense they do belong to the gov. should they be free??? I say NO, we should pay too use them. BUT THE GOVERNMENT should get out of it and let the private sector run them. IF THEY got back to safety, and roads property tax would fall like a rock if only they did truly basic government. A good business person would charge little to nothing and make it off boat gas, bait, ice, tackle, soda , food, beer, repair work etc he would want you there for those things. How nice would it be to get on your boat and come back to the trailer lights being fixed, new tires or repacked bearings?????

You truley would pay a lot less taxes if the government got out of these things and I do not thing you would pay that much at a private ramp.
Ken

From what I see from my brief time living in NSB, this is a boating/fishing/crabbing/shrimping/clamming community. And who did the study that shows the people who launch their boats here don't buy gas and goods here? I hit Wal-Mart pretty hard for my tackle and I buy all my gas/oil here and my bait.
The city reg passed years ago as did the fee based boat ramp at Dunlawton in Port Orange.

We been wondering and waiting for them to start rumbling about putting into motion what is already granted them by legislation.

The reason this whole thing went to vote was the city of NSB felt boaters do NOT spend much money in the area. They gas up at home, buy their snacks at home and leave all their garbage for NSB to clean up. When the NSB ramps underwent the $250,000 renovation a year or so ago we felt NSB was preparing to start charging the fee's.

The fee is going to be a nightmare. Folks will resist the fee as long as they can and try to go elsewhere.
